In the spring of 2020, the universal language of howling took over the world. In response, I howled back.
Working with the restrictions of the pandemic, I dug into my studio like a pioneer. I committed to projects that had been sidelined and materials stowed away in drawers, including the indigo dyed papers and fabrics I’d accumulated after years of growing and harvesting plants in my garden.
Summer exploded in civil unrest, followed by raging wildfires in the west, and the howling became louder. Science and Magical thinking converged. This must be what the Dark Ages felt like, I thought to myself.
As it grew colder and the year ended around a bonfire with a few friends, my focus had shifted to the earth and sky; Healing. What connects all of us rather than divides us? Moon, stars, trees and birds show up in many of the monoprint based paper constructions and paintings. And a unicorn.
